Subject: Installing NASI Application on NetWare 386
Date: July 19, 1990
OS Version: NetWare 386 3.01 (In house version)
This shouldn't be relevant - same happens on 3.0
Revision: 3.0, 3.01
Shell Version: Any. Tested with 3.01

PROBLEM: Installing NASI applications on a v2.15 (or earlier) server
works fine. However, on a 386 server, the INSTALL.BAT
program always returns an error that the installation disk
is damaged.
SOLUTION: Don't use INSTALL.BAT. This batch file issues the command
INSTAPPS FIRSTTIME, which forces the INSTAPPS.EXE to use a
special installation script called FIRSTTIM.INS. This name
seems to be hard coded into INSTAPPS and, incidentally, must
be entered in upper case. Typing INSTAPPS FIRSTTIME by hand
makes no difference.
The FIRSTTIME.INS file just copies the installation programs
into the SYS:NASIAPPS directory which is created by INSTAPPS
before the .INS file is processed. This directory is hard
coded also - you can't choose another volume or directory!
Therefore the solution is this :
1) LOGIN as Supervisor (not an equivalent - this is hard
coded, too)
2) Create SYS:NASIAPPS
3) Copy the installation diskette's contents into NASIAPPS
4) Run INSTAPPS
5) Install applications and users as described in the manual
(or just follow the prompts - it's a C-Worthy interface)
COMMENTS: We hope they rewrite all the hard coded stuff in INSTAPPS.
